We’ve talked a lot about cortisol — the stress hormone — and its affects on the human body. Chronic stress causes increased cortisol levels and if it goes on too long, it damages the hippocampus.
The hippocampus is the part of the brain that controls:
- Short-term memory
- Our internal GPS – our conception of time, space and directions
