Why You Need to Stop Multitasking [Infographic]

Baby boomers will remember when the Personal Computer first came out in the 90s. The coolest thing ever was their ability to do multitasking. You could have more than window or program open and easily switch back and forth.

As PCs got smarter, as did our phones, medical science now tells us that multitasking is bad for us.

I’m a high-energy person. I do have trouble shutting off my brain to relax and fall asleep at night. Even praying becomes an instant to-do list in my head.

I found this infographic on Inc. It’s created by Fuse and they’re promoting video conferencing. Which, by the way, is the only way I do 1:1 coaching. I also do initial phone consults with everybody instead of meeting them for coffee somewhere. I use an online scheduler to manage my consults. Saves a ton of time and effort.

What caught my eye in the infographic on multitasking was:

  • All the distractions and interruptions we have every day. Hence why I use a scheduler!
  • 92% of workers admit they multitask during meetings. How annoying is it when you’re presenting something and people texting or checking emails. Is it really that urgent?
  • The drop in productivity. Aren’t we multitasking to be more productive?
  • It takes longer to accomplish a single task.
  • We make more errors?
